Abstract:

Yield and fruit quality of 6 sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.) cultivars of Moscow breeding programme were studied at the Rõhu Experimental Station of Estonian Control Center of Plant Production in South Estonia. Chemical content of fruits of sea buckthorn were analyzed during harvesting period ( 3 time) and after 2 months of cold-storage at –18°C. Weight and biochemical content of fruits was dependent on time of harvest and biological characteristics of cultivar. Content of sugars, fruit weight and sugar/acid ratio increased, but content of organic acids and vitamin C decreased. In frozen fruits of ‘Trofimovskaya’ appeared to have more sugars than the other cultivars. ‘Otradnaya’ had the lowest acid content. ‘Vorobjevskaya’, ‘Trofimovskaya’ and ‘Otradnaya’ had higher ascorbic acid content than the other tested cultivars. For commercial use as frozen fruits the more suitable are following cultivars: 'Vorobjevskaja', 'Trofimov
